St Mary, Alvechurch
School Lane
Alvechurch Worcestershire B48 7SA St Mary’s is situated in School Lane, Alvechurch, and indeed is sited in the old village school buildings. Some of our older parishioners announce with great pride that they once attended, as do some of our visitors when they join us for Ecumenical Services.
We opened as a Catholic place of worship for the village in the early seventies, having already built up a community whilst meeting for Sunday Mass in Alvechurch Village Hall. The present building has been renovated to make it suitable for worship, whilst retaining many of the characteristics of a Victorian school; our latest improvements include kitchen facilities and a disabled toilet, done to a very high standard thanks to our ‘in-house’ team! We are a small but active community, and in addition to Sunday Mass, we regularly host Ecumenical Services as part of Churches Together in Alvechurch and Rowney Green. We have a Children’s Liturgy each Sunday for our younger parishioners. An Ecumenical Prayer and study group meets monthly, and grows during Advent and Lent when it becomes weekly. During the Year of Faith we have been hosting monthly charity appeals for small local charities, and these have been very successful. Contributed by J. Lavery 2013 |
